What is Radon Mitigation?

Athelon Radon Services offers Radon Mitigation System design and installation services for any type of residential building.  No two homes are exactly alike, and, likewise, no two mitigation systems are exactly alike.

New Homes

As of June 1, 2009, all new homes are required by Minnesota law to have a passive radon mitigation system installed at the time of construction.  The average cost for the installation of a passive radon mitigation system during the construction of a new home is $550-$600.

All newly built homes should be tested for radon after they are completed and occupied.  Any passive system can be activated by installing a fan on the existing pipe in the attic.

Existing Homes

The average cost for the installation of an active radon mitigation system for existing homes is $1,900-$2,300 depending upon characteristics of the house and choice of radon reduction methods.  Many factors determine the cost of the system, such as size and age of the home, soil type under the basement floor, presence of drain tile, and any additions and/or crawlspaces.

Installation of a radon mitigation system can usually be completed in just half a day.

In almost all cases, radon levels are lowered through the installation of a sub-slab depressurization system.  This is done by installing a fan that draws soil gasses, including radon, from below the basement floor through a pipe that vents out the roof of the home.
